honda0105 says:
'DEG: would like to see the facts behind that claim that every Volt cost the tax payer $100k+'
I would too. There are federal subsidies applied at multiple stages of Volt design and production, but I don't know how to figure the true figures.
GM does tell us that the average annual income of Volt buyers is $175,000 per year, however. I think that we can all agree, can't we, that taxpayers earning less than that really shouldn't have to be subsidizing the purchase of this vehicle for those with that income.

About the only chance he has of buying a new one will be next January. If he's re-elected I doubt they'll still be in production. Maybe he can find a used one?

GM has announced that it has suspended the production of the Volt, as inventory exceeds present demand. It may resume production later.
Volt Production Suspended
GM suspended production of the EV-1 years ago also. At that time the inventory was approximately five years worth of sales, and production never resumed. Eventually all remaining vehicles where destroyed.
So will GM resume production of the the Volt? Can they profitably make this vehicle in such small quantities, or will that raise the price even further?
Most buyers prefer to buy the similar Cruze instead. Is GM beating a dead horse?
Will the president have to buy a used one?

Barry can drive that vehicle next January when he is unemployed and no longer has his current position. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using ‘other’ forms of transportation to help lower your cost. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

Every Chevy Volt coming off the production line costs the taxpayers in excess of $100,000. I think that production of the Volt should be halted as a waste of money.

The current presidential limousine is not a Cadillac. Its a heavy duty truck, armor-plated and bodied to resemble a Cadillac.
Just do the same with a Chevy Volt - but make sure its electric drive, plug in, and a small gas engine to extend the range....
It can be done. Heck the president doesn't pay for it. The US government hasn't paid for a presidential limousine for years, they are usually gifts to the office of the president from limousine companies that want exposure.

good luck on his winning as far as I can see on gas buddy he doesn't seem to be a well liked man or President...I had had such high hopes for him to do well..he can also afford to buy a Volt where many people can't afford the hybrids at all...of couse he would buy one..

He would be better off to buy a Focus BEV or EcoBoost PIHEV. They get better MPG(e), are better put together, and much better value for the money.

Who cares what he drives? I just hope he's out of office a lot sooner than five years, with his regime of high taxes, social programs and brutal regulation that has bankrupted the country.

He should give every driver in America a Volt. He owns GM, doesn't he? If he wants to get re-elected, this is what he needs to do.
Oh, I just woke up from a dream...
