Well it seems that certain networks put shows on hiatus so long that recap episodes are becoming all the rage. The networks like them and the viewers just rage at them.

Well that was a waste of a LOST episode last night! should have been at the start of the season, not now.

I think what is really annoying is tribute shows using fake retro memories that do NOT fit or flow with the story of the show, esp when the show goes back and forth in the show history and creates unresolved and unaddressed discrepancies. (Desperate Housewives cough cough)

I'll go one better, or one worse. Last night Prison Break ran last seasons finale at 8 followed by a new episode at 9, and only seconds after the 8 o'clock episode ran they start the 9 o'clock version with "PREVIOUSLY ON PRISON BREAK" a recap of what was shown the previous hour, lol. I guess they have a lot of viewers that suffer from short term memory loss, lol.

Both unless a recap show is bringing you up-to-date before a new season.

I guess we'll get long recaps to start when the shows are new again.

I HATE the recap shows. Nowhere near enough info in a recap. At least in a rerun, you get to see everything.

Will we have a slew of recaps or will they just move ahead with new episodes now that the strike is over?

What gets me is a show like 60 Minutes or 2020 that adds 5 seconds to an old story and I watch it because the listing said "new". That should NOT count as new!!

I have to say recap episodes. "Perfect Strangers" (ABC, 1986-93) stands out as guilty of this, even though it is one of my favorite shows.

I don't see the difference - both are filled with stuff I've already seen. So we watch neither of these. The ones I hate the most though, and they've stopped it last season at least - is a mid-season recap on Survivor. THOSE SUCK.

It depends, sometimes the recap episodes have a couple of new elements to tease something coming up in the new season.

I tend not to watch either re-runs or recaps though, unless the re-run was an especially good episode, or a good cliff-hanger leading to a new episode giving some answers.

I think re-runs are more annoying...recaps are sometimes helpful to remind you key points, or even something that you missed, especially with shows like Heros and Lost where if you blink or sneeze, you can miss something very crucial..

recaps are the worst. the only time it MAY be ok is at right before a season premiere when its been a long time since a new episode and you may have forgotten everything that is going on. other than that, no recaps!!

I just hate it when they try to pass off a recap episode as a new episode. I would rather it be a repeat, so I won't have to waste my time.

I don't mind so much when a recap episode has some story to it but lately it seems like they are all recap with no new information or story line.

Last night's CSI could almost count as a recap episode, since it went over the details of the Miniature Killer storyline, while wrapping it in bits a pieces of new cases. Then again, the storyline actully pushed a bit forward, and we got a chance to know the lab techs better.

Didn't watch the Ugly Betty or Grey's recaps. I think the hook on the Grey's recap was a music video world premiere? Didn't think music video world premieres were all that important since MTV stopped making them events.

I liked it when there were 2 seasons of shows and you knew when they were. now there appears to be at least 4 seasons of shows and they just throw out new shows when ever they want just to keep your interest. well it does not work very well if you want to forget it all by the next 6 weeks. star trek was the first that I got pissed at when they started doing a mix of new eppisodes mixed with reruns.

Repeats I don't mind, my TiVo never records them anyway...but recap shows, the TiVo thinks are new and it records them. So, when I've got an episode in my Now Playing list that looks new but isn't, that bugs me to no end.

It's an unfortunate byproduct of producing 22-24 original episodes per season. The conventional September to May season is 39 weeks, which leaves 15-17 weeks of having to find filler in the sked. Much of it is reruns, some of it trialing other shows, some of it putting on specials (beauty pageants, news specials, Oprah/Dr Phil specials), the other part those annoying recap episodes.

You can stomp your feet and send emails until your hand cramps up, but the fact is that producing scripted programming is expensive (thus the love affair with reality and game shows). The ones who take the risk and win gets the ratings. Everyone else tries to copy to see if they can come anywhere close to repeating that success.

But what's more annoying is when a show does a recap show and it's already gone into syndication. You may have just seen some of the very episodes they recap. Scrubs is guilty, and Friends.

Recaps are usually annoying. However, when The Simpsons do a recap it's funny because they make fun of recaps. (and yes, they are poking fun at themselves)

I hate the recap shows, it takes up half the show. In this day and age, people record their favorite shows so they don't miss an episode so no need to recap.

Yep! I tend to agree. I find I'm looking at the TV listings a lot this season just to know how to schedule my time better by avoiding the repeats too.

Recaps! You start out thinking you're watching a first run and half of the show is a rerun.
