When it comes to saving energy, people in the United States know that driving a fuel-efficient car accomplishes more than turning off the lights at home.

But that doesn't mean they'll do it.

It's much easier to flip a switch off than to shell out $30K for a new car.

if you are a smart and patriotic american you'd do what saves you (and your country) the most resources in the long run...

if you can think beyond the end of your nose.. you'll quickly realise where the current path we're on leads...

Americans tend to be fat, greedy pigs who refuse to sacrifice for the good of others.

Without the article including a copy of all of the poll questions and applicable responses to each question, one cannot draw any rational conclusions based on this article. Anyone can conduct a poll with responses to the poll's questions targeted to elicit the responses the polling entity wanted to further whatever agenda the poll sponsor has.

"Overall energy use by people in the United States is four times the world average, according to the Energy Information Administration, but Americans use less energy per person than people in countries such as Canada, Norway and Iceland." - Yahoo

Energy use between Iowa and Oklahoma is not comparable. Comparison between "people in the United States" and "people in such countries as Canada, Norway, and Iceland" is absurd.

Complaining rather than personally doing something about it is our weakness.

I disagree. Most folks that I know do many things to save energy.

I just had a free "energy audit" from my power company to identify any weaknesses around my house. That was helpful.

The entire problem is contained in this paragraph:

The public looks to large institutions for leadership in saving energy, believing that individuals alone can't make much of a difference. Nearly two-thirds look to the energy industry to show the way toward energy conservation, and nearly 6 in 10 say the government should play a leading role. Democrats, college graduates and people under 50 are the most likely to hold industry is responsible for increasing energy savings.

That is correct. I have never been one to spare the horses when driving. I know I pay for it at the pump but that is what I like. I also drive a big car, not a little s%#t box that will crumple around me if I get hit.
I gladly pay for my safety at the pump.

People always act in their own best interest. If I could buy a fuel efficient car that could carry all I need for my work, I would. But it doesn't exist.

A lot of initiatives like hybrids and EV's are simply not affordable. Between the easy to do ideas and not economical there are a lot of initiatives in between. The normal person are confused by all the marketing hype of going green.
