E85 Sales continue to grow in Iowa.
According to the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA), E85 sales in Iowa increased by 27 percent during the first quarter of 2011 compared to the fourth quarter of 2010. The Iowa Department of Revenue reports that sales of E85 by Iowa retailers reached 2,645,038 gallons during the first three months of this year. Compared to the first quarter of 2010, E85 sales were up 64 percent in 2011.
"Consumers have increasingly sought out E85 as an affordable, homegrown alternative with gasoline prices approaching $4 per gallon," stated IRFA Executive Director Monte Shaw. "It was especially exciting to see E85 sales increase robustly even as the Iowa E85 retailer tax credit was cut by half on the first of January."
Iowa now has 41 ethanol plants producing a clearner burn home grown American fuel. Their combined production is now over 3.7 billion gallons which means they can supply every car and truck in Iowa with ethanol fuels.
When I retire, maybe I will just have to move to Iowa, where ethanol is easy to find. And maybe I can cut a deal with a local ethanol plant to fuel my car with E98. I would love to cut petroluem out of my fuel altogether.

That's great, but expected in the American Corn Belt. I have asked this question in another thread but will ask it again here. As the E-85 usage grows, where is all the ethanol going to come from? While you quote the gallons sold last year as a big number and a 43% growth, you do realize that one gas station in many areas of the country can sell 9.3 million gallons in a year. Let me say that again to put the numbers in perspective. In the Houston area alone there were over 300 gas stations that sold more than 9.3 million gallons last year. Not collectively, but individually. As you move around the country you will find these type numbers in a lot of areas. I personally can tell you of sites that do over a million gallons a month.
I am just trying to put things in perspective. Ethanol producers said in November that they would have a hard time meeting the E-15 rule that the EPA was going to allow going forward, so how in the world can they ever get to 100% E-85? Every acre of frre land in the country could be planted in corn and we still would not have enough.

I will be traveling out of town next week and lucky me for I managed to find some E85 pumps along my route. So it looks like I will get to use E85 for the first time.

Silver, here is another link to help you find blender pumps in N. Dakota.
This link provides an interactive map that should be able to help you. Depending on your internet speed, it may take awhile to load.
Also, I believe that S. Dakota and Nebraska also have enough ethanol to fuel every car and truck in their state.

Silver, yes E100 is what I was referring too.
Here is a link for E85 stations in N. Dakota. The star indicates blender pumps. Please note that this is a partial list, as many of the new blender pumps have not been added to the data base.

goldseeker, I assume you meant to say that Iowa now produces enough ethanol to fuel every Iowan car and truck with E100?
"North Dakota leads the nation in the number of blender pumps that offer mid-levels blends and E85."
I just drove through North Dakota and could only find two stations with E85 along my route. Unfortunately, they were both located near each other and near the Minnesota border, so I had to use E10 or less for half my trip to Edmonton, Alberta. I saw no blender pumps anywhere.

Thank you for your report James.
It looks like E85 in North Dakota has taken a big jump since last year.
North Dakota saw an increase of 133 percent in the sale of E85 fuel last year. The gallons of E85 fuel sold January through November 2010 totaled 582,535 compared with 249,988 during that same period in 2009.
According to the governor, "Our increased usage of E85 is a testament to the success of our Biofuels Blender Pump program. "North Dakota leads the nation in the number of blender pumps that offer mid-levels blends and E85."
Approximately 117 new blender pumps have been installed in 27 communities through the Biofuels Blender Pump Program.
Bring on the blender pumps......nationwide.

Locally, E85 sales have taken off at a local station near me.
Last year at this time, they were selling just 1,000 gallons of E85 a month.
This year, they are selling more than 10,000 gallons this month, AND the price of gasoline is jumping, while the price of E85 is remaining flat.
Thank goodness for American-made E85.
I love that I have a flex-fuel car.
