Alcohol can be a gas.
Go to this site and you can get a lot of helpful hints and also find out how to obtain a permit for experimental alcohol fuels.

other than making the ethanol, where are you going to get the fuel additive package customized to work with high ethanol levels?

Hello FFMike. Yes I do believe that it is more cost effective. I cannot buy e85 around here as the nearest pump is about 100 miles away.
I have looked into making my own. I am guessing that I can make it at $1.25-$1.50 per gallon. My source for feedstock would be bulk molasses. I have already priced it at my local feedstore. Molasses has such a high sugar content that you need to cut it with 2 parts water.
Basically all you need to do is get a permit from the BATF, build or buy a stil and have at it. You do have to add 2% denaturant to the finished product so you cannot drink it.
I will try to post some links in the coming days to help you out.
