we need to drill here and now. It will take a year or two to get the oil out of the ground. bye that time the price will be higher.

I dont want to be dependent on oil anymore - and it will take a few years before we all dump OPEC - we should just bear it a while longer and deal with it - just keep looking for an alternative till we perfect it

you all don't know the facts your letting the oil companies consume you with believing gasoline is the answer because they have the money to brag to make things seem better than they are gasoline is not the answer and neither is ethanol but ethanol does have AN A ENERGY GAIN

Ethanol is not the answer. It impacts the food supply, and is expensive to produce. As already pointed out, ethanol producers, in order to be able to produce their product seem to require huge subsidies. Doesn't seem to be the answer to our fuel problems to me.

Getting out of Washington and maintaining contact with the people is essential for a president. He's got huge problems on his plate and he's getting feedback from the people he's working for. That's not a waste of time or money.
Beside, getting his story out is difficult with the quality of American journalism falling by the day.

If ethanol is so cost effective, then why are ethanol producers constantly lobbying for and getting Billions of dollars in welfare from the feds every year to keep them going?

It has already been proven that there is not enough supply to meet demand for ethanol. All of the farmers in the world couldn't meet demand.

You guys have to realize for decades . we had no energy policy. We had band aid and quick fixes energy problem. Words come into to my mind. conserve energy, plan things out and work long term goals. It put more in your pocket. It helps but it is only part of the solution. Government has been to lazy to fix the problem. Obama need to think things threw and not fly to from state to state trying to get reelected for the second term. By the time presidental election come around he would traveled more then any other president.

I'm not sure ethanol is the total answer but if it helps to make us more independent from OPEC crude, it is one small part to help in that manner.

What have you gained by using it when the milage goes down in your vehicle? It would have to be much cheaper in order to break even on it.

Ethanol has to be the biggest ripoff ever. Ethanol has not solved a single problem but it has caused the price of food to increase while not saving us any noticable amount of oil imports.
I'm not opposed to biofuels if they work and if they are derived from something other than crops that make food available to millions around the world.
Nor am I opposed to farmers making a profit. I want them to make plenty of money but we must develop fuels from cellulosic sources like switch grass.
A major problem with ethanol is that most cars can only tolerate a 10% concentration. Right now, ethanol production exceeds demand and it could get worse. Already plants are shutting down and plans for more plants are on hold. With butanol you could increase the concentration in the fuel to 20 or even 30% without a problem. Hopefully, the Obama administration will give this fuel the attention it so richly deserves so that we can produce it from the proper feedstocks with the required efficiency.
The biggest threat that ethanol poses is that some people think it is an answer. It's nothing more than a stopgap but believing ethanol is a solution means we won't be looking for the real answer.

Ethanol is not the answer, we need alternative fuel sources and we need to continue to conserve gas on usage.

Ethanol IS a joke unless it's over ice at the end of a long day or you need to thaw your gasline. It will increase your fuel consumption by more than 1-2%.
Now, about your English...
"if you think it is a rip off your ancient..." My ancient what?
And, there is an entire forum dedicated to All Things Ethanol. This belongs there.
