Air New Zealand has completed the first of a series of test flights using a 50-50 blend of jet fuel and the oil of jatropha plant seeds.

Biofuel flight uses second generation biofuel

Second Generation Biofuel

"....Jatropha is a plant that grows to approximately three metres high and produces seeds that contain inedible lipid oil that is used to produce fuel. Each seed produces between 30 and 40 percent of its mass in oil and jatropha can be grown in a range of difficult conditions, including arid and otherwise non-arable areas, leaving prime areas available for food crops...."

oh look at that, I misspelled 'Algae', how embarrassing.

Seed of growth for Myanmar (With Photo)

I'd never heard of it myself until a month ago. Look at the photo in the above news story. Looks like yellow crab apples, on a low growing shrub.

From what I have herd about this jatropha plant it sounds kind of like a weed, such as switch grass. But instead of switch grass cellulose you get jatropha oil.

I thought this was impressive, but doubtful that jatropha can be grown in enough quantities to be a major source of fuel. However, every little bit of alternative energy helps.
